Who was at fault, Max Verstappen or Lance Stroll? #PortugueseGP

There were 22 minutes left in the FP2 practise session in Portugal . It was a pretty normal session, with a couple spins and lock ups. This was until the camera cut to Lance Stroll and Max Verstappen racing down towards the first corner. Any F1 fan would know that this would end up with an undesirable result for either one of them! And surprise they collided!! So, here is my take on it!! Lance Stroll was on his fast lap and Max Verstappen happened to be in front of him and it was thus his duty to let him by. Max now assumes that it's his turn to start his fast lap. It was of course not known to him that Lance was not gonna give it another go. The reason that I am aggravated at what Otmar Szafnauer said is because Just because everyone at Racing point knows that Lance is going on 2 consecutive fast laps does not mean that the whole paddock does!! And also Max is not randomly gonna assume that he is going on two consecutive fast laps. The fact is that Max let him past be...

Halo of Safety πŸ˜‡

Image
In Formula One, the safety of the drivers is the number one priority. Over the years, the safety of the F1 drivers has immensely improved. The most recent improvement is the introduction of the halo. Most of you might be asking yourselves, 'What is the halo?' , and no, it is not a BeyoncΓ© song. The halo is a titanium crash protection structure which prevents flying debris from hitting the driver and causing any injury. In a recent Scuderia Ferrari tweet, they mentioned that the halo needs to be able to support 10 tonnes!! Shocking, right!! If you’ve ever wondered why the halo is in F1 , the 2018 Belgium Grand Prix is a prime example. After David Croft (F1's commentator) uttered his signature phrase, "It’s lights out, and away we go!!", a bizarre incident took place. Nico Hulkenberg happened to misjudge his breaking point and rear-ended Fernando Alonso who then, by no fault of his own, punted over Charles Leclerc's Sauber. If you take a look at the foota...

"Bono, my tyres are gone!!"

Image
No race goes by where Lewis Hamilton does not complain about his Pirellis to his race engineer, Bono, saying " I can't look after these tyres! They're dead!” or " My tyres are gone, Bono". Lewis Hamilton has also publicly called out Pirelli various times, asking them to make better tyres. Recently, the biggest tyre-related controversy occurred at the 2020 British GP, where the tyres of both the Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas and the tyres of Mclaren driver, Carlos Sainz, all exploded. While Lewis Hamilton managed to drag his 3 legged horse(car) to victory, both his teammate, Valtteri Bottas, and Mclaren driver, Carlos Sainz, both dropped way down the order and eventually out of the points. This incident made me want to learn more about F1's sole tyre supplier, Pirelli. Tyres are the only point of contact between the ground and the F1 car. Thus we can say that the performance of an F1 car is highly dependent on the tyres used. ...

Stefano Domenicali, F1 and beyond.

In recent times, there has been a lot of talk that Stefano Domenicali, known to most people as the ex-Ferrari boss, is going to replace the now F1 boss Chase Cary. And on the 25th of September 2020, there was a news article confirming these rumours. This made me curious to know more about Stefano Domenicali. Stefano is an Italian. He was born in Imola. After graduating from the University of Bologna in 1991, he joined the finance department of Ferrari. Similar to the other recent team Ferrari principals, Maurizio Arrivabene and Mattia Binnoto, he too had to work his way up the hierarchy at Ferrari. After working in Ferrari for 17 long years, on the 12th of November 2007, Stefano was announced to be the Director of the prestigious motor racing team, Scuderia Ferrari, replacing Jean Toldt, the current president of the FIA. It was under Domenicali's leadership that Ferrari won their last constructors championship in 2008. After a couple of 'bleak' years, he resigned from ...
