Why Alex Albon deserves a second chance.
In recent days and weeks there has been a lot of talk about Alex Albon losing his Red Bull seat. These rumors increased profoundly after the Portugese GP. So here is why I think Alex deserves to have another chance.
In F1 the only person the whole world compares you to is your teammate. So, let me start by talking about Alex's teammate, Max Versatppan.
Max Versappan became F1’s youngest driver when he signed with Toro Rossa (present day Alfa Tauri) in 2015. He was 17 years old. Yeah, you read that right!! SEVENTEEN! 4 races into the 2016 season he replaced his much experienced colleague in Red Bull, Daniil Kyvat. On his debut the unthinkable happened! He won!! Yeah, when he was 18 years old he was out winning F1 races when most, most being the keyword here, of us wondering what goes first, the cereal or the milk. Let me know in the comments down below what you think goes first, the cereal or the milk.
But if you forget about that race, Max was known for his reckless driving and his crashes - many MANY MANY crashes. But when given time and space to improve and mature, he becomes a knight in the shining armor for many around the world!! He was seen as one of the few drivers who could actually challenge the merce and be a challenger for the world championship.
If he was not given that chance, we might not have discovered this future world champion. In 2016 he spent most of his time in the wall but now he is splitting the Mercedes drivers (who seem over a second faster than the rest of the grid) and driving the red bull beyond its limits (at least I think so).
Now, you must be wondering what the hell any of this, all of this, has gotta do with Alexander Albon. That is what we are coming to know.
We all know that 2020 has not really gone Albon’s way. If you think about it, even Brazil needs to be added to that list.
Ok, let's hold on a second and rewind a little. So, who is Alex Albon?
Alex is a 24 year old Thai driver who was born in Britain. He happens to be the 2nd ever Thai driver to compete in F1.
One thing most people don't know about Alex is that he was actually a part of the Red Bull Driver Academy when he was younger. So he has been through the same trum oil as his colleagues Daniil Kyvat and Pierre Gasly (basically everyone except for Max Verstappan).
I mean I know that his situation is quite different to that of Max Verstappan, but cut the poor man some slack.
If he had three podiums and one victory like he was supposed to and deserved to, would you all really think that he is a bad driver? The right answer is NO! And lets not forget HE WOULD ONE UP YOU ON ANY RACE TRACK!!
So, if you want him to get better, close up to Max and finally help Red Bull challenge Mercedes, encourage him! Give him some extra motivation. Don't bring him down, don't lower his confidence and don't give him something to feel sad. Instead lift him up, increase his confidence and give him something to feel good about!!
As the saying goes, don't kick a man who's already down!!
Also unlike when they had Pierre Gasly as their number 2 driver, they had a lot more pressure forced on them, because of the position Ferrari were in. This year they basically have second place cemented, literally have their name literally engraved there. So, there is literally no external pressure forced on their shoulders.
Also another thing to keep in mind is that: Alex Albon never got into an F1 car before he dipped his feet into the shark pool, that is Formula One. It is basically like he was a kid with no artistic abilities, given a crayon and a canvas and asked to draw the Mona Lisa. By that, I mean that it's impossible, or at least I think so.
It's common knowledge that different drivers have different driving styles. By that I mean that some drivers prefer for the car to be on the nose while the other might like to have a more stable rear…..So, what I am trying to say is that Alex is driving a car that is completely centered around Max. So, maybe, MAYBE, they prefer different car setups.
So all I am trying to say is, give Alex some time. Some time to gain some experience and a car that suits his driving style and you never know!! He might emulate his racing idol Michel Shumacher.
If I am being completely honest, the odds are kind of being stacked against him. The only reason I am saying this is because no driver who does not have 2 consecutive letters has ever won a race!! Some examples are: Sebastian VeTTel, Mark WeBBer, Max VerstaPPan and lastly Danial RiCCiardo. Maybe that's why Pierre Gasly never won a race in Red Bull.
