#WeSayNoToMazepin

Drivers have often received hate when they arrive in F1, either because they are too young or because they are classified to be a "pay driver". But over a period that hate morphs into respect and love.

I doubt any driver that is about to step into the whirlwind that is F1 has ever received as much hate as this driver has. As some of you might have already guessed I am talking about the one and only, NIKITA MAZEPIN.

So, who is Nikita Mazepin?

Nikita Dmitryevich Mazepin is a Russian born racing driver who was born on 2nd March 1999. He is the son of Russian billionaire Dmitry Arkadievichi Mazepin who placed a bid to purchase the F1 team Force India before it was sold to Lawrence Stroll (Father of F1 driver Lance Stroll.) With money comes a lot of opportunities in a sport like F1. So Nikita managed to bag himself a 12-day test programme in the Mercedes W-8.

Former Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya, was also full of praise for his test driver, saying " Nikita has shown a great level of technical understanding to go with his driving skills."

Seeing all of this, I would argue that if he lost an F1 seat, it would be his fault and only his. So, guess what he did? He is very close to losing it and has gotten the whole F1 community to hate him in the process. Here are the reasons the whole F1 community hates Nikita Mazepin.

  • After getting blocked during a PRACTISE session by Callum Ilott he punched Callum giving him a black eye and a swollen jaw. Which led to him getting a race ban from the first race of the Hungaroring Grand Prix.
  • He has made several racist and homophobic comments on social media.
  • On 9 December 2020, Mazepin posted an Instagram story in which he appeared to inappropriately grope a woman

In the light of these incidents among many more, the F1 fan base have started a trend called #WeSayNoToMazepin.

F1 drivers are held at a very high standard in the community and their teams can lose millions of dollars due to the drivers behavior. F1 drivers are also considered to be role models to millions of children who aspire to one day be like them.

Is this the driver you want in F1? Let me know what you think in the comment section down below.
