Rack Week Revisit - Qualifying

Saturday, Qualifying

Q1

1.This session was red-flagged almost as soon as it started as Yuki Tsunoda had a humongous crash into the barriers. It resulted in him having to sit out qualifying and start 20th in the race.

2.Q1 also saw the exit of the usual backmarkers and Yuki Tsunoda.

Q2

1. The 2nd part of qualifying saw some extraordinary performances and the exit of some of the big runners.

2.Both the Williams drivers had absolute breathtaking performances. George Russell did not only qualified 12th but was also just one-tenth away from Q3. Nicholas Latifi qualified for a career-best 14th.

3.It saw the exit of the 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso and his fellow Spanish driver and Scuderia Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz and former Ferrari driver, current Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel.

Q3

1.This is arguably the main session in the whole of qualifying. It is the session where the fastest drivers fight it out for pole.

2.Lando Norris qualified a career-best of 2nd, which was four-hundredths away from pole but sadly, he ran wide in turn 9, which resulted in his time getting deleted.

3.Charles Leclerc qualified 4th, this shows how big of a step Ferrari have taken in the right direction.

4.Max Verstappen was also out-qualified for the first time in two and a half years. He was very close to getting pole position but sadly made a mistake on his fastest lap.

5.Valtteri Bottas had an absolute shocker of a day and qualified 8th when his teammate qualified on pole position.
